This two-day professional development opportunity designed to build your confidence in assessing regeneration potential and applying Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR) strategies in real-world landscapes.

Delivered by ecologist Dr Adam Forbes, Forbes Ecology Limited, this course is ideal for land stewards, council officers, mana whenua, catchment groups, and anyone working with native forest restoration. We’ll cover both scientific foundations and practical tools to guide decision-making in the field.

There are two available workshops available in February 2026: Western Bay 9-10 Feb and Te Aroha 11-12 February. Venues to be confirmed.

Day One
Classroom session covering ANR principles, forest succession, seed sources, exotic species roles, threats management, resilience assessment, planting strategies and monitoring techniques.

Day Two
In the field, assessing regeneration potential, barriers and management options at local sites.

About Dr Adam Forbes

Forbes Ecology Limited is an Ecological Consultancy that provides expert ecological advice and research services.  

Established in 2012, Forbes Ecology is owned and operated by Dr. Adam Forbes, a Senior Ecologist with extensive professional experience in Applied Ecology, Natural Resource Management, and Ecological Research. 

Dr. Forbes has a broad range of ecological experience. These include: ecological effects assessments, development of effects mitigation strategies, independent peer reviews (for journals and consultants), ecological restoration, biodiversity surveys and monitoring, statistical analysis and modelling, educational talks, and scientific publishing. Dr. Forbes is a Research Associate with the New Zealand School of Forestry, University of Canterbury.
